✉Dear Sarah
Dear Sarah,
How do I navigate codependency as a business owner? I find myself taking care of everybody else, and I'm exhausted trying to do all the things.
Curiously,
Codependency with Myself
Dear Codependency with Myself,
I wrote an article for the September edition about being exhausted from trying to do all the things. Feel free to read through that response, as "Overworked and Underpaid" was in a similar situation, and I challenged her to begin delegating things to others.
Google describes codependency as "a behavioral and emotional condition where one person prioritizes another person's needs and desires far above their own, often at the expense of their own well-being."
Some of the key signs include:
Extreme people-pleasing: Consistently saying "yes" to avoid conflict or rejection, even when it causes personal discomfort.
Poor boundaries: Struggling to say "no" or feeling intense guilt and anxiety when trying to establish personal limits.
Enabling behavior: Trying to "rescue" or fix others or shielding them from the natural consequences of their choices.
Identity loss: Feeling that your self-worth, mood, or identity depends on the approval or emotional state of another person.
Walking on eggshells: Constantly monitoring someone else's mood and suppressing your own thoughts to keep the peace.
At one point in my life, I had a codependent relationship with my husband where my mental well-being depended heavily on how he treated me. His happiness and desire to stay with me became my main focus. It was an extremely unhealthy way of living and placed an unrealistic and unattainable expectation on my husband.
My mental well-being was not his responsibility.
The same can be said about putting your entire sense of purpose into what you do for your children, your spouse, your business, or anyone else.
When your identity and peace depend entirely on other people, you are setting yourself up for disappointment because people will let you down. If you are a Christian, the Bible teaches that our peace comes through our relationship with God and that our ultimate purpose is to build His kingdom.
If you are not Christian, the principle still applies doing for others is kindness, but if you are not protecting your own well-being, eventually you will have nothing left to give.
Think about a sponge. A sponge can absorb water and then be wrung out onto a dry surface. But you cannot keep wringing out a dry sponge and expect water to continue flowing.
You cannot pour from an empty cup.
You need your own identity—one that doesn't depend on another person—for it to truly be yours.
Start With the End
I suggest starting with the end version of yourself.
Ask yourself:
Who do I want to be known as after I am gone?
What would I like people to say about me?
Write it down.
Then work backward. Identify the words and phrases you want people to associate with you and begin mapping out the goals and objectives that will help you become that person.
Once you have that vision, determine what you have the power to accomplish one step at a time and what you need to delegate to support that version of yourself.
There is no reason your spouse, children, employees, or business partners cannot have dedicated responsibilities so that you are not carrying everything yourself.
Boundaries Are a Form of Self-Respect
Get excellent at keeping a schedule. A good schedule can help you maintain healthy boundaries, protect your peace, and recognize when you can say no without guilt.
Ultimately, you have more control over your codependent patterns than you may realize. You get to decide where your limits are, what you are responsible for, and what you are willing to carry.
If you continue making the same choices, you will continue getting the same results.
So now, it is up to you to break the cycle.
Start moving!

🌟From the Founder: What's Happening in Our Collective
A Night to Remember & New Connections Ahead
What a month it has been for She Rises Collective!
Our Powerful Presence Gala Ribbon Cutting was an incredible evening celebrating women, business ownership, growth, and community. It was so special to come together to celebrate Sarah Ho and Salt & Light Christian Counseling and witness the support of so many women and community members.
From the beautiful atmosphere to the laughter, conversations, ribbon cutting, and the women who showed up to celebrate one another, the evening truly captured what She Rises Collective is all about: connection, encouragement, and women lifting women.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the evening possible and to all our members and guests who came out to celebrate. We are excited to continue creating opportunities where women can connect, collaborate, and be seen.
Looking Beyond Ourselves
As we continue growing, we are also looking for meaningful ways to serve our community.
We are currently communicating with Umoja to learn more about their organization and discuss how She Rises Collective and our members may be able to support the work they are doing in our community.
Rather than simply asking, "How can we help?" we want to take the time to listen, understand their needs, and find ways our Collective can make a meaningful contribution.
This is an important part of our mission: building businesses while building community.
There is so much more ahead for She Rises Collective, and I can't wait to see where these new connections take us.
We are growing. We are connecting. And we are making an impact—together.

It was a powerful reminder of what can happen when women come together with a shared purpose. In just one day, we were able to make a difference—and we aren't stopping there.
💰Money Matters
Steps Toward a Healthier Credit Score
Your credit score can affect more than just your ability to get a credit card. It can play a role in financing a car, renting a home, qualifying for a mortgage, and the interest rates you may receive.
The good news? Your credit score can change.
If improving your credit is one of your financial goals, start with these five simple steps:
1️⃣ Know Where You Stand
Check your credit reports regularly and look for errors, unfamiliar accounts, or inaccurate information.
You can request your credit reports through AnnualCreditReport.com.
2️⃣ Pay Your Bills on Time
Payment history is one of the most important factors in your credit score.
Consider setting up reminders or automatic payments so you don't accidentally miss a due date.
3️⃣ Keep Credit Card Balances Low
Try to keep your credit card balances well below your available credit limits.
Paying down existing balances can help improve your credit utilization and strengthen your overall credit profile.
4️⃣ Be Thoughtful About New Credit
Opening several new accounts in a short period of time can result in multiple credit inquiries and may affect your credit score.
Before applying for new credit, consider whether it makes sense for your current financial situation.
5️⃣ Give Yourself Time
There isn't a quick fix for credit.
Building or rebuilding credit takes consistency, patience, and good habits. Focus on progress rather than perfection.
💡 Remember
Your credit score is a number—not a measure of your worth or your financial potential.
Whether you're rebuilding your credit or simply trying to strengthen it, every positive step is progress.
✨ This Month's Money Challenge
Choose ONE credit habit to improve this month.
Maybe you'll:
✓ Check your credit reports
✓ Set up automatic payments
✓ Pay down a credit card
✓ Stop carrying a balance
✓ Create a plan for existing debt
✓ Commit to being more intentional about new credit
Start with one small change and make it part of your financial routine.
Small changes today can help create more financial options tomorrow.
🌟 Rise in confidence.
🌟 Rise in knowledge.
🌟 Rise in financial strength.

💡 5 Things Your Insurance Agent Wants You to Know
Why are my insurance rates going up when I haven't had a ticket or an accident?
Insurance isn't exactly something most of us get excited about talking about. It can be confusing, frustrating, and—let's be honest—expensive.
Most of us have heard an insurance horror story, and many of us probably have one of our own.
Often, those stories come down to one thing: not fully understanding what your policy actually covers.
We all want to save money, but sometimes focusing only on the lowest price can leave you exposed when you need your insurance the most.
Here are five things your insurance agent wants you to know.
1️⃣ "Why Are My Rates Going Up? I Have a Clean Driving Record!"
Your individual driving record is only one piece of the puzzle when insurance companies determine your rate.
Your premium can be influenced by factors such as:
Potential repair costs for your specific vehicle
Your payment history and consumer report
Where you live
Your individual risk factors
Age and other rating factors
Insurance companies combine these factors to determine your individual rating profile and premium.
So, even if you've never had a ticket or accident, your rate can still change.
2️⃣ You Get What You Pay For
The cheapest policy isn't always the policy that provides the protection you actually need.
Choosing only the state-required minimum coverage may leave you with significantly less protection than you realize.
For example, New Mexico requires a minimum amount of bodily injury liability coverage. If you are responsible for an accident and the resulting injuries or damages exceed your available liability coverage, you may be personally responsible for the remaining costs.
That financial responsibility could potentially put your income and personal assets at risk.
The right insurance policy isn't simply about finding the lowest monthly payment.
It's about protecting what you've worked so hard to build.
3️⃣ We Really Do Want to Know What's Happening in Your Life
Talk to your insurance agent when life changes.
Buying a new vehicle? Buying a home? Getting married? Having a baby? Sending your child off to college? Going through a divorce? Experiencing the loss of a loved one?
These life changes can affect your insurance needs.
Your agent can't help protect what they don't know about.
It may seem strange to think of your insurance agent as someone who wants to walk alongside you through life's changes, but that's exactly what a good agent is there to do.
Your life changes. Your coverage should change with it.
4️⃣ What Does "Full Coverage" REALLY Mean?
Here's a little secret from your insurance agent: "Full coverage" isn't really a specific type of insurance policy.
When you finance a vehicle, your lender will generally require comprehensive and collision coverage.
🚘 Comprehensive Coverage
Depending on your policy, comprehensive coverage can help protect against things such as:
Theft
Vandalism
Hail damage
Certain weather-related damage
Broken glass
🚙 Collision Coverage
Collision coverage generally applies when your vehicle is damaged in a collision, including certain accidents where you are at fault.
But here's the important part:
Comprehensive and collision coverage don't automatically mean you have every type of protection you may need.
Things such as roadside assistance, rental car coverage, and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage are separate considerations.
So when an agent uses the phrase "full coverage," ask questions.
Go through your policy line by line and understand your deductibles and coverage limits.
5️⃣ Insurance Is About Protection—Not Just Price
Insurance isn't simply something you purchase because you need it to register your vehicle or satisfy a lender.
It's about what happens after something goes wrong.
A car accident. A storm damages your home. Someone is injured. Your vehicle is stolen. You experience a loss that could otherwise create a major financial burden.
The goal of insurance is to help protect you from financial consequences that could otherwise affect your paycheck, savings, home, vehicles, or business.
So instead of asking only: "How much is my insurance?"
Also ask: "What am I actually protected against?"
💡 She Rises Takeaway
Your insurance policy shouldn't be something you only look at when you receive your renewal notice.
Know what you have. Know what you don't have. Know what your deductibles are. And know whether your coverage still fits your life.
Sometimes, the most valuable thing your insurance agent can give you isn't a lower premium.
It's peace of mind.
This article is for general educational purposes. Insurance requirements, coverage availability, and policy terms vary. Talk with your licensed insurance professional about your specific situation.

📝Quote of the Month
🏡She Holds the Keys
Before the Year Ends, Take a Look at Your Real Estate Goals
October has a way of reminding us just how quickly the year is moving. Before we get caught up in the holidays and start making our New Year's resolutions, it's a great time to pause and take a look at something many of us don't think about often enough: our real estate goals.
Whether you own a home, are thinking about buying, or have been considering an investment property, a little planning now can make a big difference later.
🏠 Start With Your Current Home
If you're a homeowner, when was the last time you really looked at your home as an investment?
Take a walk around your property and make a list of repairs or maintenance you've been putting off. Check your roof, drainage, landscaping, heating system, windows, and those little projects you've been saying you'll "get to eventually."
October is also a good time to get an idea of what your home may be worth in today's market. You don't have to be planning to sell. Knowing your approximate value and how much equity you've built can help you make better financial decisions.
🔑 Thinking About Moving?
If you've found yourself scrolling through home listings and saying, "I wonder what we could get for our house," it might be time to start a conversation.
You don't have to be ready to sell tomorrow.
Maybe you're thinking about downsizing. Maybe you need more space. Maybe your neighborhood no longer fits your lifestyle. Or maybe you're wondering if it's finally time to purchase your first home.
Planning doesn't mean committing.
Understanding your options before you need to make a decision gives you time to prepare instead of feeling pressured.
💰 What About Investing?
Real estate can also be a powerful way to build long-term wealth, but investing isn't a one-size-fits-all strategy.
If purchasing a rental, land, or another investment property is on your wish list, start by looking at your numbers. What can you comfortably afford? What would the property need to produce? What expenses should you expect?
The goal isn't simply to buy another property.
The goal is to make a smart decision that fits your bigger financial picture.
Your October Reminder
As women, we're often busy taking care of everyone and everything else. Sometimes our own financial goals get pushed to the bottom of the list.
So here's your October reminder:
You don't have to know exactly what your next move is. You just need to start asking the right questions.
Where do you want to be a year from now?
Do you want to own your first home? Sell your current home? Downsize? Buy an investment property? Build equity? Or simply understand what your options are?
Whatever your goal may be, start planning before you're ready to make the move.
Because sometimes the biggest step toward holding the right keys is simply starting the conversation.

💼 Think Bigger About Your Business
One of the reasons this book fits so well with She Rises is its emphasis on thinking beyond survival.
It's easy as an entrepreneur to get caught up in the day-to-day:
How do I get my next client?
How do I pay this month's expenses?
How do I keep everything moving?
But what happens when we begin asking bigger questions?
What could my business become?
What would I do if I believed I was capable of more?
How could my business create long-term financial security?
Those questions can change the way we approach our businesses.
🤝 We Don't Have to Rise Alone
Perhaps one of the most important conversations this book can spark within our Collective is the idea that another woman's success doesn't take away from our own.
There is room for all of us to grow.
There is room for different businesses, different paths, different goals, and different definitions of success.
When women share knowledge, make introductions, refer business to one another, celebrate each other's wins, and talk openly about the lessons they've learned, we all become stronger.
That is the spirit behind She Rises Collective.
🌳 A Challenge for September
As you read this month's book, don't just think about becoming “richer.”
Think about what financial freedom would actually mean for you.
Would it mean more time with your family?
The ability to leave a job you no longer love?
Hiring someone to help you grow your business?
Paying off debt?
Buying a home?
Retiring comfortably?
Giving back to your community?
There is no wrong answer.
💬 Questions to Consider
As you read, consider these questions:
1. What does financial success mean to me?
2. What is one belief about money that I may need to unlearn?
3. Where am I playing small in my business or financial life?
4. What would I pursue if I weren't afraid of failing?
5. How can I use my business to create long-term wealth?
6. How can I help another woman succeed while building my own success?
✨ She Rises Takeaway
You are allowed to want more.
More freedom.
More opportunity.
More financial security.
More impact.
More for yourself and the people you love.
Wanting financial success doesn't make you selfish.
It gives you choices.
And when women have choices, they have the power to change not only their own lives, but the lives of the people and communities around them.
So this month, let's read, reflect, dream a little bigger—and ask ourselves:
What could be possible if we stopped putting a ceiling on what we can achieve?
🤝 Let's Connect
🤝 Let's Connect
The heart of She Rises Collective is connection. Every introduction, referral, collaboration, and conversation helps strengthen our community of women entrepreneurs. Take a moment this month to reach out to another member, attend an event, or support a fellow business owner. Together, we rise higher than we ever could alone.

Why You're Exhausted Even When You're Doing Everything Right
You're eating well. You're exercising. You're hitting your steps. You're trying to get enough sleep. You're doing all the things you're supposed to do.
So why are you exhausted?
One of the most important lessons I've learned from working with women is that more isn't always better.
I recently worked with a woman who was the definition of a high performer. She was exercising hard, staying extremely active, and eating very little because she believed that working harder and eating less would get her to her goals faster.
Instead, her body started giving her a very different message. Her energy was low. Her hormones were struggling. Her digestion was a mess. She was dealing with bloating and constipation. Her body wasn't responding the way she expected, and her instinct was to push harder.
We did the opposite. We pulled back.
We reduced her exercise volume and intentionally lowered her daily step goal. We worked on getting enough food into her body to support her needs rather than constantly asking it to operate in an energy deficit.
We also addressed her gut health with targeted supplementation, appropriate probiotics, and foods designed to support a healthier gut microbiome. The goal wasn't to throw some random stuff from Target at the problem and hope for the best. We wanted to understand what her body needed and support the underlying environment of her gut.
Your Gut, Your Hormones & Your Energy
As her digestion improved, so did her ability to have regular bowel movements, an important part of normal elimination and healthy estrogen metabolism.
During periods of hormone imbalance, constipation can be common. When elimination is impaired, estrogen can be recirculated rather than efficiently eliminated, potentially contributing to ongoing hormonal imbalance and inflammation.
A healthy liver and regular elimination are important parts of healthy hormone metabolism.
But we didn't stop with the gut. We also worked on:
Sleep timing
Sleep duration
Recovery
Adequate nutrition
Exercise volume
Listening to the body's feedback
And this is the part I want every high-achieving woman to hear:
Being exhausted is not a badge of honor.
If your body is telling you that it's tired, that doesn't mean you're weak. It doesn't mean you're lazy. And taking an unplanned rest day does not mean you've failed. It doesn't mean you've lost your progress.
Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is stop pushing.
When More Becomes Too Much
When you continually pile intense exercise, inadequate nutrition, poor sleep, and recovery demands on top of life's other stressors—home stress, family stress, work stress, financial stress—you're asking your body to recover from stress while simultaneously creating more of it.
That can create a cycle of physiological stress and breakdown.
Breakdown of lean tissue, including muscle. Breakdown of gut function. Disruption of the gut-brain axis. Changes that can affect hormone balance and overall well-being.
Eventually, more effort can become counterproductive.
Your body needs adequate energy, nutrients, sleep, recovery, and the right physiological environment to adapt and make progress.
That doesn't mean you should stop challenging yourself.
It means learning the difference between productive discomfort and a body that's asking for recovery.
And I think that's an area grossly neglected in the space women are "supposed" to operate within in today's world.
We're constantly being told to do more.
Work more. Exercise more. Eat less. Push harder. Sleep less. Keep going.
But your body is constantly giving you feedback.
Listen to it.
Because sometimes the path to more energy, better digestion, healthier hormones, and better results isn't doing more.
It's finally giving your body what it needs to recover.

📊 Quick Stats
By the Numbers
5–7 seconds — That's about how long you have to make a first impression online. Your website, social media profile, and branding should quickly communicate who you are and what you offer.
68% — of consumers say they are willing to pay more for products and services from brands they trust. Building relationships isn't just about good networking, it can directly impact your bottom line.
80% — of customers say the experience a company provides is just as important as its products or services. How you communicate, follow up, and make people feel matters.
65% — of a company's business can come from existing customers. Taking care of the people who have already chosen you can be just as important as constantly searching for new ones.
1 referral — can introduce your business to an entirely new circle of potential customers. Don't underestimate the power of simply asking a happy client, "Who do you know who could use my services?"

October's Book of the Month
Set Boundaries, Find Peace
by Nedra Glover Tawwab
October is the perfect month to talk about boundaries—in business and in life.
As women, we can easily fall into the habit of saying yes to everyone and everything, even when it leaves us drained.
For women entrepreneurs, this book is especially relevant. Boundaries protect your time, your energy, and your ability to show up fully for your business and your family.
One of the biggest lessons from this book: boundaries aren't about shutting people out. They're about protecting your peace so you can show up as your best self.
For women entrepreneurs, this book is especially relevant. Your business needs your vision, but it doesn't need every ounce of your energy.
One of the biggest lessons we can take from this book is that setting a boundary isn't about being selfish. It's about being clear about what you can give, what you cannot give, and what you need in order to continue showing up well.
💡 She Rises Takeaway
You don't have to say yes just because you can.
This month, think about one area of your life or business where you need a healthier boundary.
Maybe it's answering messages after hours.
Maybe it's taking on work that isn't yours.
Maybe it's constantly rescuing other people.
Maybe it's simply giving yourself permission to rest.
Ask yourself: “What would change if I stopped feeling guilty for protecting my time?” Sometimes rising means doing more. And sometimes, rising means finally learning to say no.
📖 October Reading Challenge: Choose one boundary you need to establish this month—and practice it.
Read. Reflect. Rise.

Owner of 505 Clean LLC
Meet Monica Maldonado, a proud immigrant from Ecuador and a beautiful example of the American Dream in action.
Monica is a devoted mother of four—two beautiful daughters and two handsome sons—and credits her family as one of her greatest blessings. Her entrepreneurial journey began in 2010 when she started a small cleaning business called Preferred Cleaning. In 2021, she rebranded as 505 Clean LLC, a name that felt perfectly at home in the city and community she loves.
But for Monica, business has always been about more than making a living. It's about making a difference.
As her business grew, Monica looked for meaningful ways to give back to her community. Through 505 Clean LLC, she offers free cleaning services to cancer patients, cancer survivors, and families in need.
Monica believes that a clean and comfortable home or office should not be considered a luxury reserved for the wealthy. She believes everyone deserves a clean space—and the peace of mind and mental wellness that can come with it.
At 47 years old, Monica says she feels incredibly blessed. She is proud of the life she has built, grateful for her business, and most of all, thankful for her role as a mother.
And now, as a member of She Rises Collective, Monica is excited to be surrounded by women who support, encourage, and uplift one another.
"I feel blessed as a businesswoman, but as a happy mom, I feel even more blessed. And now that I've found this amazing group, I feel like God is going to bless me even more."
We are so proud to have Monica Maldonado and 505 Clean LLC as part of the She Rises Collective family.
Welcome, Monica! We are so glad you're here.

She Rises Collective isn't simply a group of women who own businesses.
We are building a community.
A community where we celebrate one another instead of competing with one another. Where one woman's success can inspire another woman's beginning. Where business connections can become friendships. Where women can show up for each other through the wins, the challenges, and everything in between.
The Powerful Presence Gala was more than a ribbon cutting.
It was a reminder of what we can create when women come together with intention.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended, supported, helped behind the scenes, sponsored the evening, and celebrated with us.
And most importantly, congratulations to Sarah Ho and Salt & Light Christian Counseling!
We are honored to celebrate you and excited to watch you continue to grow.
❤️ Together, We Rise.
Here's to more celebrations, more connections, more collaboration, and more women stepping boldly into their next chapter.
She Rises Collective
Women supporting women. Businesses building community.
💚 Continuing Our Work with Crossroads for Women
On October 17th, we will return to Crossroads for Women to continue organizing and supporting their boutique. We are excited to build on the work we started and continue finding meaningful ways to serve the women in our community.
Throughout the month of September, She Rises Collective will be collecting new undergarments and accessories to help stock the boutique with items women need and appreciate.
We are looking for donations of items such as:
New women's undergarments
Bras
Socks
Hair ties and scrunchies
Headbands
Other new personal accessories
This month's drive is another opportunity for our members, friends, families, and community partners to participate in something bigger than ourselves.
When women support women, the impact reaches far beyond one person.
We are so proud of what our collective has already accomplished, and we are even more excited about what comes next. This is just the beginning of the impact She Rises Collective can make in our community.
Together, we rise. Together, we give. Together, we make a difference.
💡Business Boost
Stop Doing It All Yourself
You started your business because you had a vision, a skill, or something you wanted to create.
But somewhere along the way, being the business owner turned into being the bookkeeper, receptionist, social media manager, customer service representative, scheduler, marketing department, and janitor—all at the same time.
Sound familiar?
Growing your business doesn't mean you have to do more.
Sometimes it means you need to stop doing everything yourself.
💼 Take a Look at Your To-Do List
This month, look at everything you do in your business and divide it into three categories:
1. I MUST do this.
These are tasks that require your expertise, your license, your personal relationships, or your decision-making.
2. Someone else could do this.
These are tasks that could be delegated to an employee, virtual assistant, contractor, or another professional.
3. I don't need to do this at all.
These are tasks that are taking up your time without really moving your business forward.
You may be surprised by how much lands in category two and three.
✨ Your Time Has Value
If you're spending three hours doing a task that someone else could complete for $30, ask yourself:
What could I accomplish with those three hours if I wasn't doing that task?
Could you meet with a new client? Follow up with leads? Create content? Network? Work on your next big idea?
Delegation isn't about being too important to do the work.
It's about making sure your time is being spent where it creates the most value.

Celebrating Women, Business & Community
What an incredible evening!
Our Powerful Presence Gala Ribbon Cutting was a beautiful celebration of women, entrepreneurship, growth, and the power of community.
As the founder of She Rises Collective, one of the things I love most is watching women come together to celebrate each other's success. This evening was a perfect example of what happens when we make space to recognize the hard work, courage, and dedication it takes to build something of our own.
💖 We celebrated Sarah Ho and Salt & Light Christian Counseling as she marked an exciting milestone in her business journey.
💞 We celebrated with a ribbon cutting, surrounded by women, friends, family, and members of our community who came together to show their support.
✨ We celebrated connection. Because sometimes the most valuable part of an event isn't the program or the decorations—it's the conversations, introductions, laughter, and relationships that happen when women gather in the same room.
And, of course, we had a little fun along the way! From getting gala-ready and decorating to welcoming our guests and celebrating together, every detail helped make the evening special.
